We offer a complete set of SMS number type options so no matter your use case, we have an option that suits it.
Short codes are 5- to 6-digit numbers that are exclusively for text messaging. They are “short”, easier to remember, easy to text on the go, and allow for high throughput mass messaging.
Shared Short Codes
Shared short codes have been retired due to their ongoing risk of being shut down if one user misuses it or is non-compliant with their messaging.
Dedicated Short Codes
These short codes operate exactly the same as their shared variant, but are only used by a single organization. This opens them up to a wider variety of campaigns including text-to-win and text-to-donate programs. You also get to choose any keyword, rather than worrying about whether or not someone else has already claimed it. Lastly, dedicated short codes allow for proper routing of messages, so you can have prolonged 1-to-1 conversations. Benefits of dedicated short codes however come at additional costs.
Long Codes are the 10-digit numbers that we are all accustomed to. Along with being more readily recognizable as a phone number than short codes, long codes offer the added benefit of being able to use a single number for calls and texting.
P2P Long Code
We can generate a new text enabled 10-digit number for you. These numbers however are only meant for 1-to-1 communication, and are currently only available via API.
Toll-free numbers give the presence of a large, national company. They are also a great option because they give you the power and flexibility of dedicated short codes, but at a fraction of the cost.
A2P Long Code
While wireless carriers and aggregators are not planning to support these numbers until sometime in 2019, this channel will use local 10-digit phone numbers that are provisioned to send mass messages for commercial purposes. They will essentially work like dedicated short codes, including compatibility with all of SMS Marketing Services’s features, but will cost essentially the same as inexpensive shared short codes.
